2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete message from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—

Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
